New Zealand Design Pavilion - San Francisco Design Week
Installed at Shack 15 overlooking the San Francisco Bay, the 700-square-meter pavilion offers one of the most comprehensive presentations of New Zealand design in the United States to date. The exhibition spans furniture, lighting, textiles, and flooring—each piece reflecting a broader cultural relationship to material, landscape, and way of life.
The pavilion itself is conceived as a quiet, immersive environment—clean and pared back, allowing the work to speak while guiding visitors through a subtle sensory journey inspired by New Zealand’s coastal, forest, and alpine landscapes. The spatial experience was designed in collaboration with ADITIONS, the immersive design studio co-founded by Alma Lopez. Within this project, Alma led the creative direction alongside her team, shaping an environment that prioritizes feeling as much as form—where material, light, and narrative work together to create a sense of connection and place.

Rather than a traditional exhibition, the pavilion reads as an atmosphere—one that reflects a slower, more intentional approach to living. It speaks to a design culture deeply tied to the natural world, where objects are not just functional, but part of a larger story about how we inhabit space and care for it. Supported by New Zealand Trade and Enterprise, the pavilion is accompanied by a series of conversations, gatherings, and moments of exchange throughout the week.
