Nomadory Launches Rug Collections by Alma Jimenez Lopez

With Compartido, Lopez approaches the rug as a form of spatial memory, a surface embedded with the rituals of childhood and culture. Debuted during Mexico City Art Week, Compartido explores cultural memory through the lens of first-generation experience and shared domestic rituals. Rather than focusing on nostalgia, the collection examines how everyday rituals function as informal systems of care.

“Compartido is a rug collection about shared care, shared time, and the everyday moments that bring people together, Lopez reflects. “The rugs translate those memories into tactile form, designed to be lived on, gathered around, and experienced collectively. They draw from the experiences of many first-generation families, where connection was built through closeness: sitting together, helping one another, spending time side by side.” Two designs anchor the collection: Conchita and Dulcito. Conchita draws from Mexican pan dulce, with carved lines echoing the shell pattern of a concha. Handwoven and hand-carved from Tencel, the rug’s dynamic surface creates movement and relief, with Tencel accents catching light throughout the day. Dulcito references Mexican candy through color blocking, layered pile heights, and a playful, hand-drawn irregularity. Hand-tufted in wool and Tencel, the rug combines cut and loop pile to create tactile variation, inviting touch and shared experience.
